Keep GPS tracking running on custom Android phones

Some Android phones from brands like Redmi (Xiaomi) and Vivo close background apps aggressively to save battery. Without one quick setting change, the phone can stop ConnectMyWorld tracking about 15 minutes after it starts. Change the setting below for your phone brand so tracking keeps running nonstop.

Fix it for your phone

Redmi (Xiaomi)

  1. Open Settings, then Battery, then App Battery Saver.
  2. Tap Choose Apps, then Field Task Manager.
  3. Set it to No Restriction.

Vivo

  1. Open Settings, then Battery, then Excessive Battery Usage.
  2. Select Field Task Manager.
  3. Turn it on to allow background activity.
Using another brand? Oppo, Realme, Samsung, OnePlus and similar phones have the same kind of setting, usually under Battery or App management. Find the battery optimization, background activity or autostart option for Field Task Manager and allow it.
After you change the setting, restart the phone and check that your other settings are still in place. Step names and menus can vary slightly between phone models and Android versions.
